The Blessing Dress

We blessed our new baby girl in church last week!  It was a beautiful occasion we were able to share with our dear family and friends.

Early on in my pregnancy, before I officially knew I was having a girl, I was laying in bed completely exhausted and had this vision of exactly what her blessing dress would look like.  It was so specific and detailed I thought it would be nearly impossible to find just what I was looking for.  So, in my temporary insanity I decided it would be so special to make her dress.  Seriously?!  I love the decisions that seem so sane in the moment, but when you look back on them you scream at yourself, "What were you thinking?!"

Don't get me wrong, I like to sew, but I mostly make it up as I go along.  I've never used a pattern before.  Not sure I'd even know how to use a pattern.  Believe it or not... I didn't even have to use my seam ripper on this project!  That might be a first.  The very most difficult part for me was that tiny baby dresses mean tiny baby sleeves!  Teeny tiny baby size sleeves.  I could barely fit my hand in there, let alone get it all lined up and set for the sewing machine.  I pulled through though.  Made it happen.  I feel certain that there was divine inspiration helping me on this one, because it turned out exactly how I'd envisioned it... and that almost never happens for me!

Here is her little blessing dress!

As much as I love the dress, it's not complete without my little angel stuffed inside!

 The finishing touches...

I just pictured her on a bed of roses and fluff... so that's what her dress is, roses and fluff, and all kinds of sweet stuff!

My goodness, baby girls are sweet, aren't they?!

It was worth all the work, just to see her wearing it with that sweet smile on her face.

I have one questions about the dress, the roses you made are like the roses of the scarf?

  10. Ok did you hand make all of the roses or buy a fabric already put together? I'm dying to have a dress with a gorgeous bottom piece like this for my baby blessing and can't find any material as beautiful as this! PLEASE let me know where you found it or how you made it!
